about

Ludovico Ariosto composed "Orlando Furioso", which's plot is about Roland, losing his wits for a young woman. His friend Astolfo wanted to find it back, and he had to fly to the moon by his winged horse.

lyrics

ON THE MOON

For you I traveled here, looking for wits,
you have lost to the moon I went:

I went for all

In steel and flaming skies I ride the myth,
I ride the hope, to the moon I went:

I went for all

From Wonder I’ve been caught,
Facing the world’s mysteries
and things I can’t
I can't believe
In a valley I was brought by Saint John

Where things lost on earth
Can be found, here again

The cart was pushed to the sky by mighty horses rode

The earth from the moon high was only a far glow
What we lose on earth we can find here:
prayers, glory fame and tears,
sad old loves are golden worn out bows
I saw every kind of feeling, only madness was far hidden
'cause madness you can find only on earth

Sufferings and tears, unkept preyers,

Twigs like evergreen, golden hooks for the Queen
Broken bottles, wasted time,

You can find on the moon so high

On winged beasts I ride to the reign of the moon
To find what your love had stolen from your mind
For you I traveled here to the reign of the moon
Looking for wits that were stolen from your mind

And then I found them finally a lot of bottles closed indeed
Containing fluid like-vanishing men's wits
The biggest one had an old engraving
Heavy and dirty i had to clean it

“Wits of Roland" it is declaimed, I brought with me
I ran quickly to the cart, and the cart ran to the Earth
And than i run to you, mad man

Sufferings and tears, unkept preyers,

Twigs like evergreen, golden hooks for the Queen
Broken bottles, wasted time,

You can find on the moon so high
